Contestant Data This is a picture of me and my horse, Merlin (I'm the one on the right). In addition to Merlin, I have five "official" cats and two "unofficial" cats. My husband imposed a five-cat limit, so I'm not allowed to count the strays I'm feeding in the barn :') I started taking classes in stained glass (copper foil technique) about two years ago. I'm still taking lessons once a week. I love it, which puzzles me because I don't like cutting, I hate grinding, and I really hate cleaning. While I'm frequently frustrated by the mistakes I make, I find tremendous satisfaction in watching a piece come together. So far, I've completed some hanging panels, paneled-lamps, boxes, vases, and sundry ornaments. The first batch of my "work" I packed up in a box and donated to a local church's white elephant table. Hey, they took it... Last fall I tried a craft show, and I'm entered in several more this year. I'm an editor by day, and a glass enthusiast by night. My idea of quality time with my family is sitting on the couch, surrounded by spouse and cats, foiling (which I don't much like, either :') and watching a good movie. In my increasingly glass-centered life, I actually caught myself cruising the plumbing aisle at Home Depot recently, wondering if the neat little copper thingies I spied were wide enough to hold candles, and thus could be turned into a base for a stained glass project. (They were.) I don't consider myself artistic. I've so far been comfortable following patterns created by others. I view the BATTLEFIELD:GLASS contest as the kick I need to try something completely on my own. Reading the postings about the contest on the WC Glass Chat board gave me the courage to enter it. I'm excited at the opportunity to participate, and to seeing all the wonderful pieces that come out of the contest.
