When I think of hummingbirds I instantly think of my garden. I wanted
something that reminded me of my garden with a spring breeze blowing through
the flowers.
I used a variety of Spectrum art glass –
329-6 Green for leaves and stems
367-1 Yellow in various flowers
375-1 Orange for flowers
305 White for the daisy
359-1 Red for various flowers and hummingbird parts
387-2 Gray for hummingbird parts
339-6 Blue for wings and tails
337-1I Iridized blue for bird parts
335-6 Blue border
339-2 Light blue/white for the border corners
I also used Kokomo 192 for the purple iris. I used Pilkington Taffeta for
the background to give the impression of a breeze. Being forever on the
lookout for supplies, I got the pink in a box of scrap glass that I
purchased at a yard sale.
I enjoy doing 3-D projects so to me it was only natural to make several of
the leaves and petals come up from the main panel. I placed the hummingbirds
at various angles on the panel. I used black patina on the hummingbirds.
Then I painted the bodies in a multitude of colors. The panel measures 15.5”
x 12.5”. It took me about 30 hours to create this panel.
The most difficult part was actually trying to photograph the panel! The
camera just couldn’t pick up the colors of the hummingbird bodies when the
panel was hanging in the window. i ended up taking phots in several
different settings.
