Rudolph Valentino Stained Glass Movie Poster
This 22" x 30" panel depicts a French movie poster distributed by Paramount Studios for its 1921 release,
"The Sheik", starring Rudolph Valentino. This panel's design was based on elements from the original
French movie poster distributed by Paramount Studios (background and lettering), a still studio photograph
(clothing) and a portrait of Rudolph Valentino, artist unknown (face and jeweled turban).
Theme Items:
Antique Gold Rub-n-Buff was applied to the lead camel casting. It was placed in the background, under a palm tree.
The red navette was used as the center of the jeweled turban pin. The angel wing filigrees were cut into individual
feathers and used as fronds in a palm tree. The non-feather-shaped portions of the filigrees were used as frogs on
the vest of Rudolph Valentino.
Glass used:
Youghiogheny glass was used for the sand dunes. Kokomo was used for the vest. The remainder of the glass is by
Spectrum Glass Company.
Construction details:
The copper foil method was utilized throughout the panel. Glass and 3M film overlay was used for the face and
hands. Copper foil overlay was used for the palm trees and the jeweled turban pin. Twisted wire overlay was used
for the embroidery details on the pants and vest and for the cloak clasp. Scalloped foil was used to simulate
trim on the scalloped edge of the yellow under cape. Peboe glass paint was used for the lettering. The panel is
framed in ½" brass channel. The finished size is 22" x 30".
