Here goes. I have 3 boys ages 1, 7, 9. The two oldest boys love Harry Potter. They have seen both movies, and listened to all the books on tape. So I decided to make something from Harry Potter Story. I designed a 3-D Wizard called - you guessed it.

Albus Dumbledore

During every step of the project my boys gave me their opinion. The loudest comment was - why do you have to use that camel, Mommie? The problem was how to incorporate the camel. I was really puzzled. Then I decide to design his hat with Egyptian symbols. The theme items are all in his hat. The set of filigree wings were cut up. Most were used in the owl's wing. The other parts was used to surround the orange jewel (other theme item) on the brim of his hat. The camel is above the hawk. The entire piece is 2' 9" long and 12" wide. It is really big. The wizard is made by stacking layers of glass to give the face some dimension. The nose and mustache are soldered at angles to give the face depth. There 4 layers is the face. The back of the piece has reinforcement wire soldered in, that run the entire length of the wizard. The reinforcement wires also creates the hook needed to hang the piece. I spent a lot of time, too many hours to count, to make my wizard. I had a lot of fun, and enjoyed my sons commenting on every step. My two boys want it to hang in their room. This is my first attempt to design and totally create something from scratch. It was a challenge.
