Red Thief (13" x 13")
After contemplating the design for over a week I settled on working the 3 theme items through
3 main means of expression. In playing off the red jewel, I used 7 different types of Red glass, thus making
the faceted glass unique in a sea of red. The structure of geometry worked to help frame the camel. From
the bottom, moving in a counter-clockwise direction, each square is half of the previous square, a fact I
echoed again with each isolated field of red. The third tool of expression was a cohesive design that would
integrate the filigree wings and tell a story. I used loose chain, to support the level of detail, between the
bodice wings and the hitched camel.
One of the biggest difficulties of this panel was the final photograph. I found all the variations of
red to be very difficult to photograph accurately, as the light changes each red glass in unique ways. My biggest
challenge on this project was time. With two small children I could only dedicate very short blocks of time to
this project. Overall it has been a very challenging and rewarding experience. |
