Arabian Nights
Ack! I can't believe the deadline is already upon us! When the theme items were first posted on the website,
I anxiously awaited their arrival at my door steps and started planning what great things I would do with all those
neat items!
CONSTRUCTION
This is a flat panel depicting a Sultan's Palace. I searched the internet after trying to decide what could
be done to include a camel. I came up with two basic options, either a zoo, or a scene from a desert.
Originally it was going to be a three dimensional project, but due to time constraints it got flattened.
All of my glass is Spectrum glass and I utilized the copper foil technique in my construction of this project.
Solder lines on each of the onion domes on the palace have copper patina on them to make them stand out.
And the solder lines in the night sky I used a black patina to make them blend into the darker glass.
THEME ITEMS
Camel Lead Casting: What kind of desert would it be without a camel standing outside the gates of the palace.
Pair of Filigree Wings: Used to give decorative scrollwork to the outside palace gates.
Orange Jewel: Ornaments the base of the main tower's onion dome.
DIMENSIONS:
Height: 220
Width: 240
DIFFICULTIES
After deciding on what I was going to do, I tried and tried to find any kind of photos that would give me some
clue as to what a Sultan's Palace would look like. Fortunately I remembered Disney's Aladdin had a palace in it.
Also, coming up with a project that could be completed in the time frame, without making my fianci give up on our
wedding plans. Boy, am I glad the next project isn't due until after the wedding. If I make it to the next round
that is. Thanks to my loving fiance for not leaving me while I prepared this project I promise no more big projects
till after the wedding! |
