Title: "KEEPER of the OASIS"
Finished Size: 16.5" x 22"
I couldn’t think of anything functional to do with a camel, much less a flying camel, so I went with a flat piece
that my daughter convinced me would work nicely with her Egyptian collection. It also gave me an opportunity to use
a lot of my scrap greens & browns. As I began designing this, thinking I would be doing it in lead came...It
soon became clear that if I didn’t want it to be 4 feet wide, I would have to do it in foil. This is the largest
piece I have ever done in foil, but I’m quite happy with the result. The largest pieces are a combination of
Spectrum, Kokomo & Wissmach. I used Clear Water Glass for the mirage look, and the sand is Spectrum Streaky and
Kokomo. The Purple I used for the "Keeper’s" veil is Wissmach. This particular piece of glass had a neat property
which allowed me to use one side for the main piece, flip it and use the back side for the darker effect and shadow.
The leaves and trees are scraps of Wissmach, Kokomo, Spectrum & Bullseye. Of course I simply attached the
camel to the background, the Jewel to the "Keeper’s" headband and attached her pet butterfly to her shoulder.
It may not be the most creative or imaginative, but it definitely had me puzzled scrambling for an idea, thinking,
scribbling, & erasing. The best reward for me is that my kids think its way cool... |
