When I received the Theme Items, I was stymied! This is my first Battlefield:Glass
and I am not quite sure what "anything goes" means. The only thing I knew was
when I saw the camel, I could not get the song "Midnight at the Oasis" out of my head.
Does this date me or what? I wanted to do a simple basic "functional" desert scene in
theme with the song. I settled on a nightlight background and base with a separate
box/candle holder tent. I wanted to create two focal points. One is the camel's
silhouette in the background. The other is the lit tent. I used pale amber white
iridescent with the reverse side out to create shadows inside the tent. The door
is wispy white transparent to look kind of like mosquito netting. I used the cut
butterfly wings to create the tied back tent and the filigree around the gem.
The lid of the tent lifts off and can also be used as a box or candle holder. I used amber
white granite to simulate the rippling sand. The trees are iridescent green and white wispy
and medium amber opalescent trunks. The moon is lemon & golden yellow on white ring mottle.
I made the base from a small piece of oak and drilled a hole the size of a hardware store
candelabra lamp cord. This scene is what really should be going on in the deserts in the
Mid East right now. We can only hope.
I began doing stained glass about ten years ago after a lifetime of all other art forms and crafts.
You name it, I did it. Crafts that is. I work for the local sheriff's office and needed something to
relieve the stress of the day. Stained glass does just that. My pride and joy, so far, was doing a
ten foot by fifteen foot entrance of an elementary school in honor of their principle that died of cancer.
The children drew pictures of all the things she loved and I was able to incorporate most of the pictures
into the glass panels.
As for Battlefield:Glass 3, no matter if I advance, I sure had great fun doing this. You can bet I will try
again next year! |
