Theme / Components: One Oval Parrot / 2 Hexagon Mirrors / 48 White Opal Jewels

Title: "Catch & Release"

Finished Size: 20.25" x 26.75"

I'm very excited and pleased to be able to go to Round 2. I anxiously awaited our new Theme items. When they were posted, I went to brainstorming. One certainty...it needed color. It slowly became obvious to me that some evil force captured this parrot and locked it away in an icy glass cage. Who would release her? Then in all his glorious color, here comes her hero. He must recapture her and take her to the place where she can be released into her Natural Habitat. There they can be together, the Birds of Paradise they were intended to be, free forever...or at least a good 80-120 years. I wanted to do something very strong, wild and colorful, regardless of size. But after cutting it and laying it all out, I learned that I should never select glass on an empty stomach. The Wissmach I used for the main color had way too much pink & not enough red, although the glass is extremely beautiful, I would've preferred more red. The blue-green Wissmach Ripple was a terrific piece and I liked how it had hues of both colors. The ripple also gave an unexpected beauty and depth to the wings. I used Spectrum & Uroboros for the smaller pieces and Blue Glue Chip to resemble ice to border the bevel. The mirrors are cut in half & also in the frame. I used 38 of the 48 jewels to border the bevel.
