Rosie the Dragon
This fire-breathing dragon mosaic is applied to a 24" square glass coffee table. She is wearing a necklace
of rose medallions and breathing fire made from the bevel cluster. The bevel cluster pieces have been
scattered and are lined with gold foil. The rest of the fire is made from red water glass (some pieces lined
with gold foil) and yellow and red opaque glass.
The dragon is made from teal green and dark green mottled glass (9975-628). Her wings are a combination of
several shades of blue opaque and clear glass. Some pieces were lined with foil. The background is made from
various shades of lavender and blue glass. I thought that using large pieces in the background would make the
large bevel pieces fit in better to the overall design.
Problems that I encountered include wanting to do this basic design in a wall sculpture and choosing the wrong
medium to mold the base with. I used wire and thinset to build the base three weeks ago and it is still not dry!
(Talk about cracking...I hope my face never looks this bad...) Next time I will try using Bondo. It became
obvious that I would need to start over with a new plan about two weeks ago.
This is the first mosaic stained glass project that I have made. I found that completing it required a looser
approach than working with copper foil projects and I am glad that I made this. I have spent approximately 40
hours working on this dragon coffee table. |
