"Caught A Cold?"
Ah-chew!
You've caught a cold, so you reach for a tissue. That's when you
notice the frosty scene before you....
Two penguins are chattering away on the snow and ice. Another pair
is walking down over the ice and rock to dive into the ocean for a snack.
The few clouds in the otherwise clear sky are even whimsical - for each
contains a formation or two that looks like a rose. You smile, grab another tissue, and somehow feel better.
I chose a tissue box as my mosaic form because I thought it would be
a fun and useful project. (Wood box is #4322-117). The glass used is a
combination of Kokomo (water/sky) and Spectrum (everything else). I used
an ivory grout.
Theme items: The 5 clear bevel pieces were left mostly intact and
used as icebergs. I cut the largest one in half, with one part on each of
the long sides of the box. There is 1 bevel on each of the short sides, and
the remaining 2 are on the long side with two penguins. All of the clear
"ice" pieces were painted on the backside with white, and then swished with
a touch of blue. The icy effect looks very realistic.
I created the penguins by cutting off the roses from the broaches,
flipping them over, and painting white bellies on to them. The roses were
all painted white and put into the clouds for penguins dreaming of far off
places to discover. There are two in the cloud that do not wrap over the
edge, and 1 in each of the other two clouds.
"Caught A Cold?" has 66 pieces and took 23 hours to complete. It
has been the most fun of my Battlefield Glass projects to create, and I am
very happy with it. |
